Howard County Community College's Everyday Law with Host, Bob Clark welcomed Maryland State Treasurer, Nancy Kopp to the program.
The position of State Treasurer is a unique one and a historic one. The discussion included a discourse on the office and the fact that in its earliest years there were two treasurers, one for Maryland's Eastern shore and one for its Western.
The office is a uniquely powerful one as the Treasurer serves on the three person Board of Public Works, which is involved in Maryland's largest economic decisions such as the Purple Line and the proposed expansion of the Beltway and I 270.
Ms. Kopp, Governor Hogan and Comptroller, Franchot meet regularly in their capacity as the Board of Public Works and evaluate large spending proposals. The Treasurer is not a publicly elected official but rather is chosen by the Maryland General Assembly.
